Privacy Policy

Effective

1. Scope and responsibilities

This Privacy Policy applies to the Masterbook services provided by Davin Nguyen, an individual developer ("we," "us," or "our") under the Masterbook and Davinese brand names. It does not apply to third-party websites, app stores, or services that have their own privacy policies.

We are responsible for account information and for operating Masterbook. Production owners and users decide what production information to add, who may access it, and whether to include personal information about cast, crew, vendors, or other contacts. If an organization or production team added your information to Masterbook, that organization or team may be the best first contact for questions about it.

2. Information we collect

Information you or other users provide

  • Account and profile information, such as name, email address, profile photo, pronouns, sign-in provider, and account identifier.
  • Production and collaboration content, such as productions, scripts and imports, scenes, shots, breakdowns, schedules, call sheets, calendars, tasks, notes, budgets, contacts, cast and crew details, availability, dietary information, comments, files, and exports.
  • Communications and preferences, such as support requests, newsletter choices, notification settings, and responses to product communications.

Information from connected services

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the account information that provider makes available, such as your name, email address, provider identifier, and, when available, profile photo. App stores and purchase systems may provide product, platform, entitlement, purchase status, and expiration information. We do not receive your full payment card number from an app store.

Information collected automatically

We and our service providers may process IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, session and authentication data, request timestamps, feature activity, crash or error details, security events, push notification tokens, and similar technical information. Some usage information may be aggregated or deidentified.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and maintain secure sessions;
  • store, sync, display, export, and share production content as users direct;
  • manage collaboration, permissions, invitations, messages, notifications, and purchase entitlements;
  • respond to support requests and send service, security, or opted-in product communications;
  • protect users and the Services, prevent abuse, investigate errors, and enforce our Terms of Service;
  • understand performance and improve features and reliability, including according to the anonymous usage setting available in Data Controls; and
  • comply with law and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information as needed to provide the Services and perform our agreement with you, for legitimate interests such as security and product improvement, with consent where requested, and to comply with legal obligations.

4. When we share information

We share information only as needed for the following purposes:

  • With collaborators you authorize. Production content is available to owners, members, invitees, and other users according to the permissions and sharing actions selected in Masterbook.
  • With service providers. We use providers that support hosting, authentication, databases, file storage, content delivery, email, and notifications. These include Google Firebase and Google Cloud and Resend for email delivery. They process information to provide services to us.
  • With connected services and app stores. If you choose Apple or Google sign-in, use an app store, or make an in-app purchase, Apple or Google processes related account, device, and transaction information under its own privacy policy.
  • For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or enforce our agreements.
  • For a business transfer. If the Services or their assets are reorganized, financed, sold, or transferred, information may be included subject to appropriate notice and continued protection.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or use third-party advertising trackers.

5. Cookies and device storage

Masterbook uses cookies and similar browser storage that are needed for sign-in, security, time zone handling, notifications, and preferences such as display or export settings. These technologies may include a signed session cookie, Firebase authentication storage, local storage, and session storage.

We do not use advertising cookies. Because Masterbook does not use cross-site advertising trackers, the Services do not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals. You can control cookies and site data through your browser, but disabling essential storage may prevent sign-in or other features from working.

6. Retention, choices, and privacy rights

We keep account information while your account is active and keep production content until it is deleted by an authorized user, the production owner, or through account deletion. Retention may also continue as reasonably needed for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, backups, or legal obligations.

When you delete your account, your account and productions you own are removed from active systems through our account deletion process, generally within 30 days. Information in a production owned by someone else may remain under that owner's control, while your access and account information are removed. Limited copies may remain temporarily in backups, and deidentified information that can no longer reasonably identify you may be retained.

You can update profile information, manage newsletter and notification choices, change the anonymous usage setting in Data Controls, export supported production information, or delete your account from the Services. Marketing email includes an unsubscribe option.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email us using the address below. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where law permits. If another user placed your information in a production, contact the production owner first; you may also contact us for help.

7. Security, international processing, and children

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so keep account credentials and production invite links confidential and maintain independent copies of critical production information.

Masterbook and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your location. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for cross-border transfers.

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided account information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and delete it. Users who add information about minors to a production are responsible for having appropriate authority and limiting access.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the updated version and effective date here. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide reasonable notice through the Services, by email, or another appropriate method.
